The basic uses of a metal jig can be broadly divided into "straight retrieve" and "jerking." The "Stay Fall" was developed with a focus on "jerking." There are various jerking techniques, but the one I use most frequently and successfully is the "Black Panther Jerk." This technique involves jerking three times (and reeling three times), followed by a fall, and then repeating the process. The idea is to attract fish with the jerks and entice them to bite during the fall. Although it may sound simple, the key is to intentionally slack the line by slightly lowering the rod tip when transitioning to the fall action. This maximizes the natural movement of the metal jig, leading to more bites.

Through extensive research, we developed a metal jig that stays in place underwater and creates a "bite window" without needing to slack the line manually. Typically, a slim silhouette like that of an anchovy isnt suitable for creating a bite window due to its rapid water resistance. However, the Stay Fall features indents on its sides that allow it to stay momentarily in the water, creating the desired bite window.

When the jig stays and falls underwater, it lacks body movement and flashing, reducing its appeal. To counter this, we made one edge of the indent smoother, enabling the water to escape and initiate a shimmying fall with flashing, sliding like a falling leaf. The center of gravity is slightly rear-balanced to ensure casting distance and ease. You might wonder if the rear balance would prevent a horizontal fall. However, the indents catch water effectively, maintaining a horizontal fall.
