When jerking, rather than using a high-speed short-pitch jerk, its more effective to let the lure move freely without applying line tension during a slow retrieve. This causes the lure to flutter and execute a long slide.
For rod operation, after a light cast and reaching the bottom, the key is to slowly retrieve while lifting the tip about 30 cm, intentionally creating line slack to allow the jig to perform a sliding action with a slight delay. This method is especially effective for targeting yellowtail amberjack (hiramasa). During the jerk-up after the slide, the knife-edge back cuts through the water, allowing the lure to dart while swimming.
When dropping the jig to the desired depth, freeing the line tension can result in line trouble due to wind or current interference with other jigs. To avoid this, apply slight tension by lightly pinching the line as it falls, which also ensures you dont miss any unexpected bites during the fall.
Thanks to the laser-edge back design, the lure cuts through water efficiently, minimizing drag.
